                     THE BOOK KEEPERS

                                                                BOOK ONE: THE VIOLATORS

“ONLY US KNOW THE SECRET. Only us, the guardians. We were all assigned this job when the elders came back, centuries ago. We are almost immortal, for we can only die if the balance of the world tips at a certain level. Everybody would. We are 20. We are part of the people of Latinamia, the capital of the world, as we know it. All other planets and universes, dimensions and suns, and black holes are gone. Because of the most feared element in the entire world. NOTHING. The elders have kept us from it, using their last powers, and before dying, said in unison: “If you do not save the universe, in 1000 years, our powers shall fall and Nothing will take over what used to be Nothing.” Yes. They created the infinite, all universes. “They were once strong and powerful. There was a big battle against the Nothing, in which they came out alive, creating everything they had in their mind. But one day, the strongest, Korg, became angry. He hated their ways of creating. He was thirsty for another battle, and destroyed many of their creations, creating black holes. He led a group of the elders: “US” he called it, against the other elder ones, and their war lasted for years. Finally the other Elders won, but weakened by the war. And that was when the Nothing broke out of their eternal cage. The Elders were too weak to stop them, and in 5 minutes, millions of years of creating was destroyed.” And the only way to defeat  Nothing is to hold the balance of the world until the Elders retrieve their energy lost, and rise again to defeat the Nothing forever. All of that balance was contained in the BOOK. It is infinite. We have read what will happen many times. But if ONE person finds out what will happen and change the course of history, the balance will collapse and Nothing will defeat us in 0 seconds.”

APRIL 23, 145,890 A.S. (After Seldon, the creator of Foundation when the Galactic Empire fell. )

This was the night when the first man other than the Guardians discovered the secret of the book. At the time, there was 784 years left for the return of the Elders. A man named Marcus Robinson, one of the citizens of Latinamia persuaded to discover the secret of District 1, (the district of the Guardians) and the Guardian’s secret.

“He sneaked up the dark alley which led to the back of the Guardian’s building. Climbing up, he reached a window, and tried it. Locked. He inserted a “Myncopener”, a brand new device capable of opening anything, though very expensive, in the window. It automatically slid open, and he squeezed inside of the building.

Marcus ran up steep stairs and opened an unlocked door to the roof. Wrong place. He quietly closed it and started down the stairs. Then he heard footsteps, and clinging armor. Guards, he thought. He reopened the door, closed it, and ran across the roof to a smoke hole. He threw an “Anti-Fire” down the hole, just in case there was a fire, and after that, an “Bumper”, a gadget that would soften his chute down the hole. And he jumped.

He landed, and bounced out of the fire place, in a room with a piano, a sofa, and a door.

“PCHHHHHH.” A noise came out of the door. Marcus grabbed his gadgets, stuffed them in his knap bag, and opened the door, a Nuclear Blaster in his hand. “Won’t be necessary.” A low but gentle voice came from the room. A man was sitting there, a shaver in his hand. “I’ve put  anti-nuclear devices all over the building, when I saw you come in that window.” Marcus started sweating, and tried shooting the Blaster. A puff of smoke came out, but no nuclear blast. “How…”, but then he caught himself. He had an ancestral device powered with chemical energy. They used to call it a “Gun”. A sudden uncontrollable fury took hold on him, and “PAW!” He shot quickly, and the man fell, with a burning hole through his head.

Footsteps of many guards running echoed through the building. Marcus ran straight out of the room, and bumped in a metal door with anti-Myncopeners. Can’t open that door, he thought, and started away, but then stopped in his tracks. He remembered the oldest device he had: an electro-key. It melted through anything, and when you turned it, it opened anything. (By the way, Marcus is the shopkeeper of all the devices that escaped the big crash). He did that, and the impossible door slid open, revealing the greatest secret ever.”

                       APRIL 24th

“Johnny Halvard, commander of the Royal Fleet!” Johnny Halvard, a stiff shouldered and loyal commander of the planet Veldor marched in the room. He had received an audience with the dictator Leon Mallow, the stupidest and most corrupt leader of all times.

Leon started: “So as I have heard, you want to send an expedition out of the atmosphere of Veldor, and see if the Nothing that dominates the universe is-” “Gal-Axy, Leon! You know why I’m here. Just sign this paper and let me prove you that this f****** story of the Elders is just a complete lie that ignorants like you would believe. Now SIGN IT!” Leon hesitated, and then took the sheet. He was about to start signing when 5 elderly men came in. “The Elders!” gasped Johnny. They were not the “Elders” from the big war against the Nothing, but 5 Guardians who decided on important decisions. “You will not go”, one of the men said in a low, deep voice. “Why?” Johnny answered indifferently. Leon looked at Johnny as if he had committed a genocide. Well, almost. But answering to the Elders was the greatest crime possible, sometimes punishable by death. The Elders looked at Johnny with those “I-will-kill-you” Eyes. “No.” One of the Elders whispered menacingly to Johnny. And that was it. Johnny stomped out the door, glaring at the Elders.

That day, a burial was held. The Guardians were now 19! The word spread through Veldor like a wildfire. A man had come in the Guardian’s building, killed one of them, and discovered the world’s greatest secret: the book. He had took it, and disappeared, or left without trace, using gadgets. Everybody had at first suspected the Gadget shopkeeper, but all evidence proved against them. The greatest detectives were all over the planet, searching for the thief. And now, a large group of citizens and army men had joined up and started a revolt: many scientists had found out there was trace of living organs out of Veldor! The group, or as they called themselves, the “Silence”, wanted to send ships out of Veldor to explore what was there.

Commander Johnny Halvard had joined the Silence, and was preparing to send ships out of Veldor’s atmosphere, which came from Johnny’s regiment in the Royal Fleet. But now, the Veldorian army was trying to seek out the Silence’s ships and destroy them. It had already killed and tortured many partisans of the Silence, but none had unveiled where they hid.

                    JUNE 18th

Finally the ships were ready. A first ship went out of the solar system, and came back in, with no trace of damage. That raised billions of men into revolt, and they overthrew the Guardians and Leon Mallow in no time. And then the first fleet came out of the solar system, and invaded the surrounding planets. The Veldorian empire had risen from the dust of treachery and lie.
